ood security is not simply a function of production or supply, but of availability, accessibility, stability of food supply, affordability and the provision of adequate quantities and qualities of safe nutritious food at all times. Within the current food security debates, issues of food quality, stability, sustainability, access and diversity have been over looked. Access to safe, nutritious and adequate quality food is a human fundamental right as declared in 1996 World Food Summit in Rome. Although the world food production has increased substantially due to the modern/conventional farming technologies, many individual households in the developing countries are still food – insecure. Food insecurity in many developing countries have been exacerbated by increased population growth, poverty, environmental degradation, extreme weather conditions, high food prices, food export restrictions, and demand for bio-fuel crops, as well as an increased use of cereals to feed animals.
A sustainable agricultural system depends on a range of conditions for optimum productivity, which are generated by natural ecological components and processes as well as artificial enhancement by the people. Our main goal is to contribute to sustainability in environmentally friendly agricultural technologies that contribute to food security.
