Earth Day; Education on Climate Change Could Save the Earth
Earth day is an annual event organized across the world every 22nd of April. The event is held to demonstrate support for environmental protection and encourages the planting of trees. The theme for this year, 2017 earth day was environmental education and climate literacy. Education is the foundation for progress and is the most powerful weapon for changing the life of children and the world at large.
Resource Center for Environment and Sustainable Development (RCESD) performed outdoor activities where they empowered some students with the knowledge to inspire actions in defense of environmental protection. Some RCESD staff reviewed that “environmental and climate literacy is the engine not only for creating green voters and advancing environmental and climate laws and policies but also for accelerating Green technologies and jobs.
In an interview from one of the RCESD staff, Mr Desmond Fontoh, he revealed that “the students were very active and exercised knowledge on awareness raising. Some of the students came up with local mitigation strategies towards climate change, for instance, switching off refrigerator, air conditioners to avoid emissions of Chloro Fluoro Carbons (CFC) ”.
